Hello, I’m Kirsty Hickman – the creative mind behind Hickman Design. Working from my home studio in picturesque Royal Deeside, alongside my cocker spaniel Elle, I collaborate closely with teams and businesses to deliver creative work that engages, informs, and inspires. I bring the dedication and responsiveness of an in-house designer, providing flexible, high-quality creative support tailored to your needs.
Prioritising projects that make a positive difference, big or small.
Creating tailored, high-quality design that adds value at every stage.
Encouraging environmentally friendly, sustainable choices.
Building trusted partnerships through open, honest communication.
Great design begins with: Understanding your vision and values. I combine a wide range of visual communication skills to craft creative solutions that truly resonate and deliver lasting impact.
Collaboration at the heart: When we work together, you become an active partner throughout the process. I value your insights and feedback to deliver design that supports your long-term goals and growth. I’m committed to nurturing long-lasting relationships built on trust and open communication. I also collaborate with talented photographers, videographers, and copywriters to ensure your project shines from every angle.
I’ve had the privilege of collaborating across diverse sectors, both as a freelancer and in staff positions – from local councils, community projects and charities to independent businesses
I graduated with honours from Gray’s School of Art in 2010, laying a strong foundation in design principles. Following graduation, I refined my practice in graphic design while working at a consultancy firm. Over time, I expanded my expertise to include spatial design and UI/UX design – all while continuing to freelance in graphic design.
In 2015, I took the leap and founded my own design business. Since then, I’ve used the power of design to inject creativity into town centre regeneration projects, support and promote a variety of events, champion meaningful causes, and contribute to the growth and success of independent businesses.
I’m committed to using creativity to drive positive change. I’ve supported charities, social enterprises, public bodies, improvement districts, and councils to create meaningful local impact. If your project aims to contribute positively – to people, place, or nature – Let’s chat about how I can support your project.

Packaging Design for Social Change
Project Brief: Distinctive packaging for Highland Boundary’s Wild Scottish Bitters. The design highlights Scottish botanicals and supports a mission to reconnect people with Scotland’s natural heritage.
My life beyond design is enriched with artistic exploration, outdoor adventures, and environmental advocacy – passions that deeply inspire and inform my creative work.
Spending time hiking and running in nature provides moments of reflection and rejuvenation.
I engage with both contemporary and traditional arts and crafts, alongside regular visits to galleries, which continually fuel my inspiration.
Since 2021, I’ve taken on small but rewarding volunteer roles – supporting The Barn Arts, my local arts centre; occasionally planning and leading runs at my local running club; and most recently in 2025, serving as an ambassador and volunteer ranger for Cairngorms National Park. These commitments allow me to contribute meaningfully to my community and causes I care about while balancing my design work.
My commitment to understanding environmental causes and the natural world enhances my ability to support clients working in these fields with genuine insight and appreciation.
