Encouraging visitor Exploration Through Engaging Leaflet Design

Commissioned by the Cairngorms National Park Authority, I was tasked with refreshing the Paths Around Tomintoul leaflet, originally produced in 2011. Produced in association with the Tomintoul community, the updated guide helps visitors and residents explore walking routes around Tomintoul, situated within Glenlivet Estate, part of Crown Estate Scotland.

project brief

The leaflet needed to bring together updated walking routes, local information and detailed mapping in a clear, accessible A3 gatefold format. The design also needed to follow the Cairngorms National Park brand guidelines and incorporate the route grading symbols and graphic design guidance from Paths for All (now Walking Scotland).

The approach

Bringing Routes and Information Together

Working with content supplied by the Park Authority and mapping provided by a cartographer, I developed a clear, engaging leaflet design that brings the different elements together.

A key challenge was fitting everything into the limited space without compromising clarity or ease of use. Careful layout, typography and visual hierarchy helped organise the information into a practical, easy-to-follow guide.
